Jarrell ISD’s 1916 Building underwent improvements as part of the 2021 Bond. Huckabee was charged with helping the district bring the beloved facility back to life for the district and community. The building served as a K-12 school, middle school and high school before being closed; it has been empty since the early 2000s when the new Jarrell High School was constructed.
At approximately 8,300 sf, the 2-story building will receive improvements to create a new community and administration center. While not on the historic registry, the design team approached the project with historic deference. The existing brick and exterior detailing will be refurbished to maintain the original style.
The interior will be fully modernized; the first floor will focus on community and the second on administration. Redesigned spaces include a Board room, conference and meeting space, training areas for educators and a multi-purpose lobby that will house JISD memorabilia exhibiting the history of the 1916 Building. The building is also being master planned in anticipation of growth within the district’s enrollment, and therefore, administrative needs.
