E4H worked with USPI to design a new 25,000 square foot, 2-story MOB and Ambulatory Surgery Center in Southlake, TX. The ASC is located on the second floor, and shell space for future expansion is located on the first floor. The project includes 5 ORs, 1 procedure room, 5 Pre-Op, 14 PACU bays, and clean sterile, and support space. Extensive glazing provides access to daylight and views of nature, which reduces energy consumption and supports best practices in designing medical facilities. Ample natural light comes in through stairwell, waiting areas, and recovery bays, making the space feel very inviting and soothing.
The design team focused on selecting materials to incorporate elements of biophilic design. For example, natural materials such as wood and stone-like finishes are seen in the lobby and public spaces, and botanical prints were selected for the privacy curtains. A soothing palette of blues, greens, and dark taupes hues add contrast and establish a connection to nature. In addition, light fixtures with some whimsical movement provide acoustic dampening and provide visual interest. The design choices made will help to ensure that the building remains timeless for years to come.
