Facing overcrowding in an antiquated facility, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth sought to upgrade and expand its emergency department. The ED serves Plymouth and 12 of its surrounding towns. The facility underwent phased renovations that mitigated patient overflow and increased comfort for staff and visitors.
E4H delivered eight new private exam rooms, expanding the ED and improving the existing space. The renovations also created a new behavioral health unit (BHU) by converting existing outpatient areas and moving services off-site for increased space and comfort for patients and staff.
The new, glass-wrapped entrance vestibule and canopy features offer clear direction to the entrance for visitors, and the vestibule pulls the entry out of the building to fill the interior with natural light and create a secure access point.
Visitors are greeted by an improved reception and waiting area, and a coastal-inspired palette of blues and greens. Wave patterns echo throughout the space and relax with subtle nods to the local environment. Colors and architectural elements promote wellness and relaxation with a unique lighting layout that avoids ceiling fixtures and too much lighting.
