The new De Zavala Elementary School is a replacement campus on the same site as the existing facility. The new facility will accommodate a student population of 1,000 and will provide spaces and elements that are consistent with CISD’s curriculum standards. These spaces include classes for pre-K through 5th grade, special education / resource rooms, a library / media center, cafeteria, gym and art spaces. Notably, the design creates a library / media center that is functional and fun; a slide takes students from a second-story platform down into the library.
The school design is a two-story configuration. Landscaping will be low maintenance and drought tolerant. The building will utilize metal stud back up with masonry veneer and low-slope roof assemblies. Exterior windows will be shaded as needed to reduce glare and enhance energy savings.
