When the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center sought to expand services to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, E4H was an indispensable partner in providing access to compassionate, multidisciplinary cancer care across the region. We completed our design of the system’s 11,300 SF bone marrow transplant unit in two phases, converting existing med/surg spaces to BMT inpatient rooms and creating a new 12-bed unit.
Because bone marrow transplant patients often have longer lengths of stay, we took a patient-centered approach to designing the care experience. The new unit improves the patient experience with access to natural light, nature-inspired artwork, and warm wood finishes. Patient rooms include comfortable seating and space for supporting family members.
To maximize staff efficiency and workflow, E4H conducted a comprehensive assessment of existing conditions and current state operations. We worked closely with Hackensack Meridian Health leadership at the executive, clinical, technical, and design levels to ensure the resulting project addressed patient safety, staff safety, and operational efficiency, while providing patients with clear access to all support and clinical services.
