As the result of a master planning process to identify areas of improvement and unmet needs on Northwell Health’s Mather Hospital campus, E4H redesigned and relocated the Emergency Department, providing connectivity to the adjacent surgery center.
This project consists of 46,000 square feet of new construction along with 2,200SF of renovations. To improve access and patient flow, the Emergency Department was relocated and shell space created for a future surgical expansion adjacent to the existing surgical services. It also created a more direct path to the existing inpatient nursing units from the Emergency Department.
The addition includes extensive sitework on the northern side of the campus to prepare for the new ED and added driveways, a helipad, and a new parking configurations as well as accommodations for the Walk-in and Ambulance entrances. The existing outpatient entrance for Surgical Services was maintained and upgraded. To accommodate ongoing operations, the project was phased over multiple years to minimize interruption to patient services.
