Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center upgraded and expanded an existing surgery suite at the main campus, adding two new ORs. This required the relocation of one existing waiting area, reception, and consult rooms, and the renovation of a second waiting area. Structural modifications were required for the project to work within a tight floor-to-floor height. A plenum CleanSuite system within the modified structure was implemented, along with boom mount locations and lighting.
The resulting public spaces strike a balance between comfort and function. The design captures a curated, residential feel with resilient materials that prioritize infection control. In the lobbies, varied seating types in flexible arrangements provide family members a comfortable place to sit while loved ones are in surgery. Custom glass top activity tables provide positive distraction for visitors, as well as a place to work or play on laptops and tablets.
