Purl Elementary School was designed to support choice and collaboration. Class groups are split into pods; each pod features classrooms, a shared collaborative space and a teacher design lab. In classrooms, glazing creates transparency and connectivity while movable walls promote adaptability. A high-volume library is located at the center of the campus. In the space, a large learning stair and reading nooks create a sense of fun for students. A maker space connects the library to an outdoor learning courtyard, one of many outdoor spaces used for play and instruction. The exterior of Purl is similar in aesthetic to nearby historic Georgetown.
