Washington & Lee University’s new Lindley Center of Student Wellness will provide comprehensive, around-the-clock wellness care for physical and mental health needs under one roof. In addition to improving accessibility for all, the facility will be ambulance-accessible for students needing higher acuity care.
The first floor is home to the Student Counseling Center, with 10 counseling offices and one group therapy room. The Student Health Center is located on the second floor and includes nine exam rooms and six after-hours rooms where students can sleep for overnight observation and benefit from extended care.
The site has approximately 20 feet of grade change from the front of the building to the back, which required excavation into the hillside, to provide direct at-grade access to both levels of the building. The red brick façade with columns is designed to fit into the surrounding campus context.
This greenfield project employs several sustainability features aimed at achieving LEED Silver status.
