Howard Newton, CGD, CGI

Director of Geothermal Design

Howard Newton is the Director of Geothermal Design at IEG, bringing 45 years of industry experience. His expertise spans HVAC system design, ground-source heat pump system application, and on-site HVAC technical problem-solving. With a deep understanding of geothermal technologies, he plays a key role in developing efficient, sustainable heating and cooling solutions. 

Howard’s design philosophy is to keep HVAC design energy efficient and simple to understand. As a former faculty member at Oklahoma State University’s School of Engineering Extension, he managed the Geothermal Energy Lab and contributed to key research used in two major geothermal design manuals. His work contributes to environments that foster community pride and well-being, emphasizing the role of thoughtful, sustainable design in shaping the built environment. 

Howard is a Certified GeoExchange Designer (CGD) and an active member of multiple industry organizations, including the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Fort Worth Chapter, and the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA), where he served as Vice Chair and Chairman of the Training Committee for 16 years.
