E4H Environments for Health Architecture designed an innovative new community health center for Fair Haven Community Health Care (FHCHC), incorporating both health and wellness services to improve population health. Located at the gateway to the community, this transformative project was designed with extensive community engagement and focuses on creating inclusive spaces to serve the needs of Fair Haven, where approximately 60% of residents live below the poverty line and the majority lack health insurance.
The 35,560 SF building supports an integrated approach to medical and behavioral health care and includes 26 exam rooms, a retail pharmacy, a lab, and shared community and education space. To support FHCHC’s harm reduction program, the clinic will expand services and reduce barriers to care. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) spaces support patients as they navigate the opioid crisis.
A fresh food “farmacy” and teaching kitchen address food insecurity and promote nutrition education. Community spaces support job training, digital health literacy, ESL classes, and other critical programs. Outdoor amenities, including a pocket park and roof terraces on the second and third floors, create a welcoming space that integrates nature into the healing environment.
The project’s forward-thinking design integrates, complements, and expands patient services while also serving as a hub for the community—creating a campus that is well positioned to address future healthcare needs.
