ABOUT BEN
Ben is the Sr. Executive Director of MOREgroup’s engineering practice, Innovative Engineering Group (IEG). He is responsible for overseeing the operations of IEG, including all engineering disciplines and how those disciplines interact with owners, architects, other engineers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
Ben has over 25 years of experience in the industry, and he is at the heart of many multi-disciplinary innovations which have changed and will change the future of design and construction—many of them related to expansive soil, storm shelters, and the masonry industry.
He is active in numerous national organizations which define building codes and industry standards. Additionally, Ben is the current Past-President of the National Storm Shelter Association (NSSA), is a Voting Member of the International Code Council (ICC) Committee responsible for ICC 500 “ICC/NSSA Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters,” and is an active participant in the development of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) ASCE 7 “Minimum Design Loads and Associated Criteria for Buildings and Other Structures.”
Ben has also been active in the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA) Code Advisory Committee’s Subcommittees and ICC Code Advisory Committees. He co-authored several editions of the Masonry Designer’s Guide, was the Chair of The Masonry Society (TMS) Disaster Investigations Committee for many years and was the Chair of the TMS Design Practices Committee when it authored the original TMS 403 “Direct Design Handbook for Masonry Structures” Standard referenced by the International Building Code (IBC). He is also a recipient of the Paul Haller Award.
